Lettering on Ceramics is a basic handbook covering various methods of lettering on ceramics, including brush work, carving and glazing. It looks in depth at a number of artists, exploring projects they have worked on and how they have tackled them, and how words are used to broaden work. It also includes a selection of beautifully drawn alphabets to work from or copy.
Imposing lettering onto ceramics started as an ancient form of communication and has gradually evolved into an art form in its own right. This new title in the Ceramics Handbooks series covers the development of this tradition in detail, along with methods of imposing letters onto clay, including stamping, stencils, slip-trailing, resist methods and relief work amongst others.
