Artists Statement
Jo has just completed her MA at Bath Spa University, based at historic Corsham Court. I make sculptural forms from fragments of clay, each fragment containing the gesture of my hand. Visual influences include plaster ceilings, wrought iron gates, carved wood, which reference the natural & organic. My larger forms are made from heavily grogged & coloured clays fired to 1260' & are suitable for outdoor display. I also make more delicate porcelain forms which work on a more domestic scale. Technical InformationI incorporate colour into the clay body and then manipulate it when very soft: the sense of softness and touch remains apparent in the finished piece. I use a range of grogged clays and porcelain which are all fired to 1260' to make them weatherproof if displayed outdoors. History and Background2012 - MA Ceramics, Bath Spa University - I also hold a BA in Ceramics & a Professional Graduate Certificate in Education from Bath Spa. I have been teaching ceramics for the past 6 years, including Creative Arts undergraduates and the offender learning sector. I currently teach ceramic improvers at the New Brewery Arts in Cirencester. Exhibition History
