Current Work

Taking the human figure as my inspiration, I make both glazed and unglazed sculptures and use surface textures and printing on the clay to create a variety of finishes. My sculptures are all hand-built. I also make limited edition sculptures. I make (on commission) large scale garden sculptures, portrait busts in ceramic or bronze, and framed monotype pictures.

Work generally available from:
You can buy my work direct from my studio - contacting me by telephone or via my website - see above - or from a number of galleries around the UK – please see my web site at www.rosemarycripps.co.uk .

Other information:
I have taught at College and University as well as teaching art teachers for the local education authority. I have also taught children at schools and run courses and workshops at various levels.
Although my main focus is on creative work I would be pleased to consider requests for lectures, demonstrations or workshops working on my own or as part of a group of artists/tutors.

Technical Information

I use mainly stoneware architectural clay or Earthstone handbuilding material by Scarva.
I use two propane gas fired kilns. A smaller one for firing work up to about 25" (32 cm) tall and a larger one (about 18 cu ft) which will accommodate work up to about 45" (115 cm) tall.
I have developed a range of glazes to complement my sculptural forms and add additional colour and interest to my work.

Most of my work is fired to 1260 C or above, though for glaze firings I use temperatures to suit the different glaze recipes. I also use both reduction and oxidation firings to obtain different finishes.
